Has anyone an answer to my problem, :0 please? I have adjusted my hook size and taken stitches out of the corners (then I end up with a dome!) So if you don't want a flared square, or a dome hat, then how on earth do you get your square to sit flat?
Are you trying to make up your own square or are you following directions? If it's directions make sure your gauge is correct. If it is posting a picture of the square would help me determine what's going on. But If your trying to make up your own square you could post what you've been trying to do and I'll see if i can help or here's a couple of links on making squares that might help you out. Hope some of this helps :)

Sometimes using a different size hook (larger) in the beginning chains and even the first round and then going to the next size smaller hook can help. Also, as you crochet, your hands can tire and cause your tension to change. Keep checking your gauge as you go. If you notice your piece turning into a dome, you need to increase the number of stitches evenly across the sides not at the corners. If your piece flares, then you need to decrease evenly on the sides not the corners. I also found that using bamboo hooks help decrease the strain on the hands.
Thank you. That is all great advise! I must try again with all this knowledge and a bit more confidence. :)
