I'm in!  I adore Robyn Chachula's work---she's a fave designer.  I ordered Knit Picks Comfy in the Marlin colorway---it should be here by early next week---can't wait to start!Big Smile

I loved this sweater the moment I saw the cover of the Spring issue!  I, too, have never done a crochet-a-long before, but this seems like a great time to start!

I headed off to my favorite LYS and bought my current favorite yarn, Cascade Ultra Pima, but on consideration it seems a bit heavy for a summer top.  I have a lighter-weight cotton yarn from a frogged project, but I'm not sold on the color.   And it might not have enough springiness.  Hmmm.  The hunt continues....

I have to say, I'm not a fan of ordering yarn online, unless I've used it before, or at least handled it.

OK, after starting about 5 swatches, I finally got gauge....2 hook sizes smaller, and a fingering weight yarn.  Looking in the back of my copy of the magazine, I see that the recommended yarn, though called a sport weight, has a wpi of 18...more in the fingering/baby/lace range.  I usually work tightly, and have to go up a hook size, so this result is surprising.  I strongly suggest you all play with some of the yarns in your stash before committing!!

I am using caron spa in ocean spray - its acrylic and bamboo.   I just started row 3 of the shaping area and was wondering if anyone else had any problems with that row.  At the end it says to (dc, ch1, 2 dc) but the diagram shows only (dc, ch1, dc) ... then rows 4-5  say to repeat rows 2-5... which doesn't make sence to me :( how can I repeat them?   2 rows for 3 rows?

Any help?

Wow, you've gotten a long way already!  I just got my yarn yesterday (KnitPicks Comfy Fingering in Lilac Mist), and started working today, after doing my swatch and blocking it last night.  So, I can't help with the directions vs. chart issue (my chart shows only 2dc in the last ch-1 sp, with no chain at all....).

But where it says "Rep Rows 4-5 of pssp.  Rep Rows 2-5 of pssp 3 (3,3,4,4,4) times, I think you need to do Rows 4&5 and THEN do Rows 2-5, either 3 or 4 times depending on size.  A total of 14-18 rows....
Does that help?

Finished my gauge swatch over the weekend. Using Knit Picks gloss fingering weight yarn. Went down to a 3.75mm hook which was still a tiny bit bigger than the pattern gauge but the size I need is between two sizes in the pattern so it should be good.  Only had enough time to get through the first 5 rows of the pattern but it's looking fantastic! Love the colour. Can't wait to have it finished so I can wear it. I love Robyn Chachula's patterns. I have her Lacey Cropped Cardigan on the go too and hoping to do the Belcarra Cardigan next.

Finished my gauge swatch as well---Knit Picks Comfy Sport in Marlin on a size D hook.  Started the sweater (largest size) several days ago and it looked quite big---so I frogged and I'm going with the next size down---am on the first row!

Glad to hear someone else had the same results.  I, too, went to a 3.75 which is still a bit big but I am going to use it as well because of the same reason.  I'll make the smaller size and hopefully it will all work out.

Sounds like a lot of us had to drop hook sizes--I'm using a 3.5 (size E) and fingering yarn, and am right on gauge after blocking.  Is anyone actually successfully  using a size G hook?

I dropped hook sizes as well. I did this partially because I wanted my finished pullover to be somewhere between the 34 1/2" and 37 1/2" sizes. I just posted in-progress pictures in the gallery. I only have one more repeat before I begin the right back. This project is going so quickly!

If anyone else has pictures, I would love to see how your projects are looking. And if you have any trouble loading them, please let me know.

Oh, good!  Glad I could help!  I'm kind of lagging behind--got my yarn late and then had to frog everything I did yesterday and make it 2 sizes smaller.  But I'm on my way now....I'll take pics tomorrow.

Okay, I'm not liking the "heaviness" of the Knit picks Comfy for this garment----way too heavy for the summer heat---which we are having with a vengeance this week!  I'm frogging it and I'm off to my LYS today to get a fingering weight yarn----sigh!  -Ruth

Because I am crazy obssessed  passionate about crocheting a garment (and have been unable to do so in the past --- just look in the dark corner of my closet of WIP garments...ahem.)  I am soooooo excited to join this CAL.  I actually completed the Sydney's Sideway Socks only because of the excellent support thru this forum, so here I go w/ my first garment.

And hey! -- swatch is done and so are rnds 1-3.
