I'm enjoying the series on the history of Clones lace that started in the fall  interweave issue of 2011. I've had no problems making the small rose and the wild Irish rose. However, in the 2nd part of the series (Winter 2011)  I'm having a real problem with making the "buttony" motif! Instructions on what to do are easy enough but I cant get my hook back into the ring to do the single crochet stitches.  Anyone have  a tips on how to do this without loosing the ring?

you could try an invisible circle by making an adjustable ring  where you start with a bigger circle by wrapping the yarn around your finger, and sc into the ring, and then pulling the ring tight shut AFTER you have added the requisite number of sc.

a photographic diagram lol, better than my attempt at explaining. http://www.crochetspot.com/how-to-crochet-the-magic-adjustable-ring/
