There is this awesome granny square beanie for a newborn that I want to make (see picture). I have searched high and low for a pattern that would produce a hat similar to this with no luck.It looks like 3 or 4 granny squares whip stitched together? Although I am not a beginner crocheter, I have never made a granny square!Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.Thanks!

Looks like they used a large hook (J or K) and heavy yarn.
Ch 4. Join with sl to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 3 (counts as dc) dc in ring. (Ch 2, 2 dc) 3 times in ring. Ch 2. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
2nd rnd: Sl st in next dc and ch-2 sp. Ch3 (counts as dc) (1 dc. Ch 2 2 dc) in same sp as last sl st. [Ch 1. (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc) in next sp ch 2 sp.] 3 times. Ch 1. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
