Hi there, I'm new to the site, but I've been crocheting simple afghans for several years.  I'm looking to broaden my horizens with different types of yarns and learn techniques from here.  Has anyone been involved in the CAL's?  Love to get involved and get to know ya'all.

Hi! Welcome to Crochet Me. Be sure to check out all of the free eBooks. There are some great patterns in there and some fun new techniques.

Thanks for the welcome.  A CAL is  actually a Crochet-A-Long.  it is when a group of people work from the same pattern and work at or near the same speed on the same project.  If anyone has a problem they post it and it is discussed.  Usually  there is a leader who runs the CAL and over sees the whole process, and makes sure everyone is on the same page so to speak and understand the material.

Wow barbysue.

That's a terrific idea, apparently I haven't been on crochet forums enough to learn the "speak" but I'll pick it up as I go along I guess.

I thought it was the neatest thing when I read about it.  I have picked up a lot of lingo.  You may end up asking a  lot of questions but that is the only way you learn.  Smile  The CAL sound really cool I'd like to know if anyone has done one.

Well I haven't done the CAL...  If someone comes forward, please let me know.  I'd like to know if it's worth joining.

So far no one has said anything about it.  But I will let you know.  The one thing I have noticed is that they seem to use patterns out of the Interweave magazine.  So one would have to get the magazine in order to do the CAL.  But I guess that isn't a big deal.

Thanks for the Friend Request!  That was very sweet.

Oh really.  But can I get the magazines from where I am?  I'm from Melbourne Australia.  Wonder how it would work, maybe through email or something or other.  To post it would take a few weeks.  Can't help that we are underneath everyone in the world.  Ha ha.

In reference to the friends request.  Well...  You are my first friend thus far.  Perhaps we should throw a party ha ha.  Sorry being silly now.  Must be past dinner time.  Ha ha

Bye for now.

:)

That's right, I forgot you are my "Down Under" friend.  How cool is that?!  Where else could we have met but on a forum like this?  I bet you have a wonderful accent as well don't you?  I can almost hear it now... I have a southern accent that twangs every little bit.  My dad lives in Kansas but comes from Kentucky and has a different way of speaking and while growing up I, of course, picked it up.  When we have one of our long talks on the phones I pick up his way of talking on the phone.  My husband laughs at me for a day or two until I get my twang back.

I definately think we should though a party how about 6:00pm your time and mine we tip a glass of whatever we drink (mine is usually diet soda) and toast each other?  "Happy crocheting" ??? Sound good?  Yes, I'm a little silly but who cares?!

Ha ha...  So funny.  :)  Funny you should mention accents, mine is sort of all over the place.  I'm Australian born, from Italian parents, but spent my early years being raised by Irish/English nuns.  Long story, when you have 3 years to spare, I'll explain it to you.

Anyway, so my accent isn't completely Aussie.  It's all over the place.  Sometimes I stir up my local shopping centre and put on a different accent and then the next time I visit I use the Aussie one.  It's really quite funny.  Oh and yes, I have a wicked sense of humour.  Ha ha.

I would love to have a drink with you.  I will have my diet lemonade (which I believe is actually soda.)  So yes we'll be drinking the same thing.  So weird that.  :)  If it's 6pm in Melbourne, what time will it be in your town.  Either way, I will raise my glass at 6pm my time and send you cheers.  I will be on the forum as well.

Cheers for now....  Oh and would love to hear that Southern accent of yours.  ha ha.

Ciao

I meant to tell you that your post this about the time if it was 6:00 pm your time it hit my inbox at 8:00 am on Thursday my time. so we are 14 hours apart so I think that makes me ahead of you? or behind you was it Thursday night or Wednesday  night for you when you posted about diet lemonade being your drink and your unique accent?

By the way... I think we are talking to each other on two different threads or at least I hope it is you otherwise there are two Maryd's from Melbourne on here.  Did you just ask someone to do a Crochet a long with them?  and you are trying to figure out what to do now?  If so that is me.  If not I have the wrong person and there are two Maryd's runing around on this forum from Melbourne.  How funny is THAT?!

Ok.  But we are currently on Friday eve, therefore, we are a day ahead of you and just about to have pizza for dinner.  Hee hee

Yes, the other Maryd. on the other post is me.  Know what we should do, abandon these posts and start a new thread because the two posts are introduction posts.  We are well passed intro's.  Don't you think?

Where to start the thread and what to call it, is the question.  Any ideas?  Oh and cheers. (Although it's 6.56pm currently here)
