Most of the fine shawl/scarf/some shrugs call for a fine yarn -- a "0" or "1"....it seems that most of the fine fingering yarns are wool or alpaca combined with silk....I really can't handle any wool near my neck or arms....any suggestions ?....I really don't want to use baby blue or pink either...can anyone suggest an alternative?  Thanks much!

Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet Thread #10 is listed as "lace weight". It is 100% cotton and comes in 53 colors, including variegated. It's on sale on the link below:

Aunt Lydia's is a great idea for a substitute that is readily accessible. Remember that substituting cotton will give you a different drape. You can also find 100% silk yarns or bamboo yarns that are designed for socks. Another option is Nazli Gelin thread which comes in a lot of colors.
