Toya Walker

Introduction

My enviably glamorous french friend has just had a lovely baby boy. I wanted to make him a gift suitable for a cold winter in a caravan, so I crocheted these faux fur/leather style boots. While baby boots are pretty cute, because they’re just so darn small, I wanted to make sure I designed them to actually stay on, so they have a tie round the ankle (or you could use elastic).

This is my first attempt at writing a pattern, so feedback is appreciated.

Materials List

3mm hook

1skein of dk brown wool (A)

1 skein of dk cream or off-white wool (B)

Finished Size

approx 0-3 months

Notes

The fur trim is made with loop stitch, instructions can be found at http://www.nexstitch.com/v_loop_stitch.html

The Pattern

Sole and sides: Make 2 working continuously round the foundation row except where stated. Place marker at the beginning of the round if this helps.

With A ch 13

Round1: 2sc in 2nd from hook, sc in each of the next 9, 3sc in last loop of chain, then, working down the other side of the foundation row sc in each of the 9 sts.

Round2: (2 sc in next st)twice, sc in each of the next 9, (2sc in next st)3 times, sc in each of the next 9, 2sc in last st of round

Round3: (2sc in first st, sc in next st)twice, sc in each of the next 9sts, (2sc in next st, sc in next st)3 times, sc in each of the next 9, 2sc in next st, sc in last st.

Round4: (2sc in first st, sc in each of the next 2 sts)twice, sc in each of the next 9sts, (2sc in next st, sc in each of the next 2 sts) 3 times, sc in each of the next 9sts, 2sc in next st, sc in each of the last 2 sts.

Round5: (2sc in first st, sc in each of the next 3 sts)twice, sc in each of the next 9sts, (2sc in next st, sc in each of the next 3 sts) 3 times, sc in each of the next 9sts, 2sc in next st, sc in each of the last 3 sts.

Round 6: (2sc in first st, sc in each of the next 4 sts)twice, sc in each of the next 9sts, (2sc in next st, sc in each of the next 4 sts) 3 times, sc in each of the next 9sts, 2sc in next st, sc in each of the last 4 sts, sl st to join

Round7: ch1, sc in back loop of each st of round

Round8-10: sc in each st all the way round

Round11: sc in each st all the way round sl st to join. Fasten off

Boot top or upper: Make 2 working in rows on both sides of the foundation chain.

Ch 8 with A

Round1: sc in 3rd from hook, sc in each of the next 3 sts, 3sc in last st of the chain then working along the other side of the chain, sc in each of the 4 sts. Turn

Round2: ch1, sc in each of the next 3sts, 2sc in each of the next 3sts, sc in each of the last 4sts. Turn

Round3: ch1, sc in each of the next 3 sts, (2sc in next st, 1 sc in next st)3 times, sc in each of the last 4sts. Turn

Round4: ch1, sc in same st, sc in next 4sts, (2sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts)3 times, sc in each of the next 3sts, 2sc in last st. Turn

Round5: ch1, sc in same st, sc in next 5sts, (2sc in next st, sc in next 3sts)3 times, sc in each of the next 4sts, 2sc in last st. Turn

Round6: ch1, sc in same st, sc in next 6sts, (2sc in next st, sc in next 4sts)3 times, sc in each of the next 5sts, 2sc in last st. Fasten off.

Sl st round outer edge of upper to join it to base and sides. Sl st creates the ridge that gives a moccasin effect, ensure the ridge is formed on the top not the side. Do not fasten off.

Ankle and Trim: Make 2 continuing from the sl st round. Work in continuous round except where stated.

Round1: Sc in each row end of upper and the remaining stiches of sides (36sts in total)

Round2: Sc in each st round working a decrease at the 2 corners (where the upper meets the sides) (34sts in total)

Round3: Sc in each st round working a decrease at the 2 corners (where the upper meets the sides). Sl st to join.(32sts in total)

Round4: Ch2, hdc in next st, ch1 sk1, (hdc in next 2 sts, ch1, sk1)7 times, 1hdc in each of the 4sts, ch1 sk1, hdc in next 2sts, ch1, sl st to join.

Round5: Ch1, sc round.

Round6-7: Sc round.

Round8: Sc round. Sl st to join on round 8. Fasten off.

Round9: With B join, ch1, loopst round. (NB loops will appear on the underside of the work and the INSIDE of the boot.)

Round10: Loopst round

Round11: Loopst round, sl st to join. Fasten off leaving thread.

Finishing

Fold over loop st section so loops are on the outside and sew down into place. Plait or crochet to sections of cord to thread in and out of holes created in round4 to tie boot round ankles.

Introduction

This is a simple crocheted bag that you can make. Add the hexagon suggested in the pattern directions, or add one of your own choice; there are numerous free motifs available!

You can find complete pattern directions on the following link. Click on the images at the bottom of the page for additional photos.

With short edge facing you, fold each side of the top edge in toward the center to make 2 pleats. (see Photo B) Pin in place. Repeat for opposite end. Starting at pleat, attach yarn and sc through all layers of the pleat and evenly around the top edge of the bag. (72 sc). Chain 1, sc around 1 more row. Do Not fasten off.

Introduction

You know the look on your cat's face right before it tears through the room, stalking it's invisible prey? Yeah, you know the one. Well this hat is a tribute to that look. Hooray for the Crazy Cat!

P.S. If you make this hat I would love to see photos!

Materials List

Materials:

One skein (no more than 150 yards) of
Lion Brand Homespun yarn in "Edwardian". Or substitute with another textured chunky weight yarn
that will give the same gauge.

No more than twenty yards of a worsted
weight yarn for eyes. I used
Red Heart Soft yarn in "Honey"

No more than 10 yards of black worsted
weight yarn for eye outlines and pupils. I used Caron simply Soft yarn.

One yard of worsted weight yarn to
     embroider Crazy Cat's nose. I
used Caron Simply Soft yarn in light pink

One yard of worsted weight yarn to
     embroider Crazy Cat's whiskers.
I used Caron Simply Soft yarn in grey

Size I/9 - 5.5mm hook (use for main
     part of hat)

Size H/8 - 5.00mm hook (use for eyes
     and pupils)

Yarn needle

Finished Size

This hat will fit a
tween, teen, or adult with a head circumference of up to 22". The hat's circumference is 23" and is not very stretchy. You could put it on a 23" head but it would feel quite snug. The Styrofoam head pictured has a circumference of 21".

Gauge

To make a gauge
circle swatch, work rounds 1-6 of hat pattern. Diameter of circle should measure 4" (about 10 cm).

Notes

Abbreviations
and terms used in this pattern:

Ch = chain

Dc = double crochet

Hdc = half double
crochet

sc = single crochet

st(s) = stitch
(stitches)

Sc2tog = single crochet 2 stitches
together. This is a decrease
stitch. (Insert hook into next
stitch, yarn over, pull loop through to the front of work, insert hook into
next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through to the front, yarn over and pull
through all three loops on the hook.)

Sl st = slip stitch

Tr = triple or
treble crochet

The back bump:

This is also known
as the back, backside, or butt of a chain stitch. This is the part of the chain stitch that is opposite of the two loops (the ones that form the
"v") that you would normally insert your hook under. In other words, if you turn the chain upside down, so that
you are looking at the bottom of it, you will see a line of dashes. It is under each dash, that you would
insert your hook if you were instructed to crochet into the back bump of each
chain stitch.

Magic Ring:

Most of the pieces
in this pattern start out with a magic ring. If you are not familiar with this technique, I highly
recommend typing "adjustable magic ring crochet" into your preferred search engine, to
learn how to do it. There is a good video of this method on You Tube also. However, if
you prefer not to use the magic ring method, you can chain 2 stitches, and then
work into the second chain from the hook as directed. For example, if the pattern reads: "make a magic ring, sc 6
times into ring..." you could instead: "ch 2, sc 6 times into the second ch from
the hook".

The Pattern

Directions:

The top of the hat
is crocheted in a spiral, starting at the top center. When you get to the earflaps, you will work back and forth
in rows. Ears, eyes, and pupils
are crocheted separately, and sewn on later. Nose and whiskers are embroidered onto hat.

Make
Hat Base:

Round
1.
With main
color (chunky) yarn and size I/9 - 5.00mm hook, Make a magic ring, 6 sc into
ring, pull to tighten ring (6 sts).

Round

Round

Fasten off with a
long tail. Use this tail to stitch
eyes onto hat AFTER you have stitched pupil onto eye.

Make
2 pupils:

With size H/8 -
5.00mm hook and black worsted weight yarn, ch 8. Working into the back bump of each stitch, and starting with
the 2nd chain from the hook, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 dc
in next st, 1 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in last
st.

Fasten off with a
12" tail. Use this tail to stitch
pupil onto eye. (Stitch all the
way around the edge of pupil). Use
photo for a guide. Now you can
stitch eyes onto head using the yarn tails from the eyes. (Stitch all the way around the edge of
eyes). Weave in ends.

Embroider nose and
whiskers onto hat using photo as a guide.

Congratulations you
Crazy Cat, now you are finished with your hat!

My husband, bless his heart, is probably the most supportive crochet husband I have ever met. If i say i need more yarn, buttons, hooks, anything related to yarn craftiness, his answer is "then lets go get you that."

But

Anytime i ever offer to make him something.... "No." not in a mean spirited way, he just tells me he doesn't need anything crocheted.

then finally i came up with this Cool Crochet Cable Hat for my nephew. "hey, I like that hat!" piped up my sweet husband. so finally I win! he seems to be quite pleased with his new hat, and i am quite proud of the design.

Materials List

~any ww yarn, I have used both Red Heart super saver, and Lion brand Wool-Ease, both worked fine

~G-6 hook (However, i crochet VERY loosly, after your first couple of rows you should be able to tell if this hook is too small for you. if i were to use a bigger hook the FPDC's start to look funny)

Finished Size

~this pattern worked well for both my husband and my 13 year old nephew, it also fit me quite well

Gauge

the cable makes it hard to measure gauge on the outside of the hat, but if you look on the wrong side for your guage it should be

14 sitches and 12 rows = 4" (10cm)

Notes

~ if you havent learned to do FPDC, and BPDC this is a good project to learn on, youtube has some great videos on how to do them.... you may want to practice the stitches a few times before you start on the hat.

~also the beg ch2 does not couunt as the 1st st (if you prefer to ch 3 for your 1st st, make sure to adjust your st count)

~do not turn your work

~1st cable (over 4 st) - skip next 2 st, FPDC around nxt 2, ch2 , go back and FPDC around the 2 skiped sts

The Pattern

Sometimes, it's too warm for a full sweater in the office. But I hate short blouses [which for some reason is all there in on the racks now]. To remedy that, I made a long vest. Not knee length, just long enough to cover my bum.

I used Peaches & Cream cotton yarn, but this should work with any 4 ply worsted weight.

Materials List

Size J metal hook

two 14 oz cones of Peaches & Cream 100% cotton worsted weight [I used Sea Breeze color, because it's what I had on hand]

stitch markers

Finished Size

Because this is a vest, it works for Large to 3X.

I left the arm holes large enough to accomodate a very full sleeve without being binding.

The Pattern

BOTTOM

Foundation row: 60 stitches.

Chain 3. DC in the second stitch from the hook, then in each stitch. 60 DC total.

Chain 1. SC in every stitch.

Chain 1. HDC in every stitch.

Continue steps 2-4, until the piece is long enough to reach around your hips. If it has a bit left over, that’s fine. you can fold back in as facing.

SHAPING YOKE

Turn the piece 90 degrees, so you will be crocheting along the side. Single crochet along the side.

Fold the piece in half. Mark the center stitch. Count 23 stitches on each side and mark. Count 20 stitches from these marks. Mark these points.Beginning at the corner, chain one. HDC to the marked point.

Chain one, turn, HDC in each stitch.

Chain one, turn, HDC in the next two stitches, HDC two together, HDC in the rest of the stitches.

Repeat Yoke step #4

Repeat Yoke step #3

Repeat Yoke step #4 for two rows

Repeat Yoke step #3

Repeat Yoke steps 3 & 4 until there are a total of 21 rows

Chain one, turn, SC in each stitch. End off.

On opposite side Repeat Yoke steps #1 through #10.

Skip 20 stitches. HDC in the center 47 stitches for 21 rows. End off.

Sew shoulders together.

EDGING

SC around entire outer edge, one row, with 3 chain st. at the two bottom corners.

HDC around entire outer edge, one row, with 3 chain st. at the two bottom corners

DC around entire outer edge, one row, with 3 chain st. at the two bottom corners

Repeat Edging steps 1-3

Brenda K. B. Anderson

Introduction

This stylin' hat is quick and easy to make. The simple stitch pattern creates nice drape and an interesting texture. I needed a hat that wouldn't look weird or misshapen if I pulled it over my hair bun. This hat is stretchy and slouchy and looks equally good over big hair or short hair.

Materials List

One skein (no more than 100 yards) of super bulky weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Thick n' Quick in "Lemongrass".

Size N - 10mm crochet hook

Yarn needle

Finished Size

This hat is very stretchy and is meant to be loose fitting and slouchy. Hat is sized for adult small (medium, large) with corresponding head circumferences of 20" -21" (21"- 22", 22"-23"). The (un-stretched) finished circumference of the hats measure 19" (20", 21") respectively. My head measures 22" and I can wear either the medium or large size. The medium size fits more snug to my head, and the large size has a bit more drape to it. The hat in the photos is size large. The live model has a 22" head. The Styrofoam head model has a 21" head. Each hat is approximately 9" tall.

Gauge

10.5 stitches = 4" in stitch pattern

7 rows = 4" in stitch pattern

To make a gauge swatch in stitch pattern:

Foundation row and row 1. Ch 14 sts, turn, 1 sc in 4th ch from hook, [ch 1, skip next ch st, 1 sc in following st] 5 times

row 2. Ch 1 (turning chain - does not count as a stitch), turn, [ch 1, skip next sc st, 1 sc tbl into following st] 6 times. (12 sts).

row 3. Ch 1 (turning chain- does not count as a stitch), turn, [ch 1, skip next sc st, 1 sc flo into following st] 6 times. (12 sts).

Repeat rows 2 and 3 twice more.

Notes

Abbreviations and terms used in this pattern:

Ch = chain

Flo = Front loop only. When you sc flo (single crochet front loop only), you will insert your hook under only the front loop of the next stitch, not under both loops like a normal crochet stitch.

sc = single crochet

sc2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together. This is a decrease stitch. Work as follows: Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through to front of work, insert hook into next st, yarn over, pull loop through to the front, yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.

sl st = slip stitch

st(s) = stitch (stitches)

tbl = through back loop. When you sc tbl (single crochet through back loop) you will insert your hook under only the back loop of the next stitch, not under both loops like a normal single crochet stitch.

yo = yarn over

The back bump: This is also known as the back or backside of a chain stitch. This is the part of the chain stitch that is opposite of the two loops (the ones that form the "v") that you would normally insert your hook under. In other words, if you turn the chain upside down, so that you are looking at the bottom of it, you will see a line of dashes. It is under each dash, that you would insert your hook if you were instructed to crochet into the back bump of each chain stitch.

The Pattern

The main part of this hat is crocheted back and forth in rows. (Each row is oriented vertically when hat is complete). After joining the foundation row to last row (to form a tube), stitches are worked into the top edge or the tube (in a spiral) to finish the center top of the hat.

Foundation row and row 1. Ch 22 sts, Turn, 1 sc into the back bump of the 4th chain stitch from the hook, [ch 1, skip next ch st, 1 sc into the back bump of the following st] 7 times, 1 sc into the back bump of each of the next 4 sts. (20 sts).

row 2. Ch 1 (turning chain- does not count as a stitch), turn, 1 sc tbl in each of the next 4 sts, [ch 1, skip next sc st, 1 sc tbl in following st] 8 times. (20 sts).

row 3. Ch 1 (turning chain- does not count as a stitch), turn, [ch 1, skip next sc st, 1 sc flo in following st] 8 times, 1 sc tbl in each of the next 4 sts. (20 sts).

Repeat rows 2 and 3:

16 more times for small size

17 more times for medium size

18 more times for large size

Do not fasten off!

Hold the rectangle that you have made so that your crochet hook is at the right side of your work (as though you are about to work another row). Take the beginning edge of your rectangle (the foundation chain edge) and bring it in front of the last row that you worked. In other words, fold the rectangle in half (with right sides together) and line up the short edges. Your crochet hook will be to the right, and in the row behind the beginning yarn tail. Slip stitch these rows together by inserting your hook into the back loop of the foundation chain stitch, and then through the back loop of the stitch directly behind it (from the last row worked). Yo and pull loop through both stitches to front of work and through loop on hook. Be careful not to pull too tightly on your slip stitches; make them a bit loose. Repeat across row. (20 sl sts worked). Do not fasten off.

Now that you have turned your rectangle into a tube, turn it right side out. Your hook is now located at the top edge of the tube. From now on, you will crochet around top edge of the hat in a clockwise direction. As you do so, you will be making decrease stitches to cinch in the top of the hat. Make 1 sc stitch for every 2 row ends as follows: Insert hook through the end stitch of each of the next 2 rows, yo and pull loop through to front of work, yo, and pull through remaining 2 loops on hook.

For size small, work 17 decrease stitches (as described above) around top edge, work one more sc st into last row end (18 sts).

For size medium, work 18 decrease stitches (as described above) around top edge, work one more sc st into the last row end (19 sts).

For size large, work 19 decrease stitches (as described above) around top edge, work one more sc st into the last row end (20 sts).

Next row: sc2tog 9(9,10) times. There will be 9(10.10) sts left. Fasten off leaving a 10" tail. Using yarn needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loop of each of the remaining sts and pull tight. Weave in ends.

I hope you love this hat as much as I do!

After years of looking for a cardigan/jacket pattern that I really liked, I gave up. I had recently made a pullover and some mittens with the Bernat Baby Boucle. It's not fun to work with. It's a bear to pull out if you make a mistake, and it can try your patience, but otherwise it does work up nicely.

Anyway, I grabbed up a hook, and a skein of yarn, and got to it. It was trial and error, but this it the final product. Sorry it looks sort of sloppy on the dress form. It hangs better on a body.

If you want a wider collar, just add more rows of double crochet at the last step.

Materials List

3 large balls Bernat Baby Boucle I used White for this one, because that was the only solid color at the store.

K metal hook

I metal hook

safety pins or other stitch markers

Finished Size

This makes a Woman's large/XL, size 16-18, iwth sufficient room to wear something substantial underneath.

Gauge

8 double crochets = 3" with size K hook.

Notes

Ch: chain stitch

Slp: slip stitch

SC: single crochet

HDC: half double crochet

DC: double crochet

Sorry for any confusion about the rows in the pattern. When I wrote it out, I did it in a numbered list. Guess this format doesn't copy the numbered lists from WordPerfect. I fixed it though. Sorry, ya'll.

The Pattern

1. With larger hook, foundation chain 150

2.Chain 3. Skip the first stitch, and dc in each stitch

3. Turn. Chain 2. Hdc

4 Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 20"

5. Turn. Hdc in the next 30 stitches.

6.0Turn. Hdc in the next 27 stitches. Hdc 2 together. Finish the row

7 Turn. Hdc in the first stitch. Hdc 2 together. Finish the row.

8Continue row 6 & 7, decreasing one stitch on each row, until five decreases have been made for the next 3 rows.

9Turn. Hdc in each stitch across.

10Repeat #8 for the next 5 rows

11 Repeat #9

12 Repeat #7&8 until only ten stitches remain

13 Repeat #9. Finish off.[total of 21 rows]

14 Join thread to other side. Repeat #5-13.

15 Count in 20 stitches from the inside edge of one side. Put a marker. Count 20 stitches from the inside edge of the opposite side. These are the armholes.

16 Join the thread at the 21st stitch, and hdc across in each stitch.

17 Turn. Hdc in each stitch

18 Repeat #17 until there is a total of 21 rows

19 Catch up the outer edge and join one shoulder. Finish off.

20 Join the thread at the other end of the back. Catch up the outer edge and join the other shoulder. Finish off.

SLEEVES

29 Repeat #25

30 Repeat #23 for the next 5 rows

31Repeat #25

32 Repeat #23 one row

33 Chain 3. Dc in the next 3 stitches. DC 2 tog. Dc in the next stitches, DC 2 tog, repeat until chain 3. Join with slp

Substitute Lion Brand Suede- Mocha for Patons SWS Natural Coal

Finished Size

The study used 1 ball of each yarn- 3 total & is about 18"x24". It's a good petghan size

Gauge

Used N Hook with cable. Gauge is not as important as the drape of the fabric made. It should NOT be dense & inflexible, but drape fluidly.

It should drape easily but it should not be so loose as to see spaces between the rows- we’re aiming for a solid, soft piece of drapeable fabric.

Notes

(1) I use a smaller hook for the foundation chain because tunisian crochet creates a much denser fabric than regular crochet. I feel the beginning chain looks sloppy if you use the same size hook to also create your beginning foundation chain. Same thing goes for the final slip stitch row.

(2) I let the beginning & end rows curl. It’s not much of a curl & I like the look.

(3) I’m picky about the sides having clean even edges- I did not create a border around the piece. There are ways to ensure clean even edges- which I can explore in a later post/pdf.

(4) If you want to make a shoulder wrap instead, try a width of 20-24” & a length of 60-72”. It will change the look somewhat though, as the color sequence changes will be less frequent. Start with a chain 72 instead for 24" width.

(5) If you’re an animal lover- one ball of each color will make a nice pet blanket of approx. 18” by 24”. The color sequence will look a lot different though- but still very interesting. Start with a chain 72 instead.

(6) As I mentioned in (3) I crave neat edges- so when I need to add a new ball of yarn I do not do it at the edges. I tie a square knot to join the yarn & leave short pieces to weave in on the reverse side. FYI- The reverse side is just as pretty as the ‘public’ side!

The Pattern

(1) Chain 108 with Color A

(2) Forward row- continue with Color A (pickup yarn loops through the back bump of the chain- it creates a nicer looking bottom edge- 108 loops on hook)

(3) Return row- drop Color A & add Color B

(4) Forward row- drop Color B & add Color C

(5) Return row- drop Color C & pickup Color A

(6) Forward row- drop Color A & pickup Color B

(7) Return row- drop Color B & pickup Color C

(8) Forward row- drop Color C and pickup Color A

And so on……… contine until you reach your desired length. Mine ended up 56”. If you wish, add another ball of each color & make the fabric wider &/or longer.

Final row- end on a forward row with the smaller hook & slip stitches.

You will notice that as you approach the end of either the forward or return row there will always be a strand of yarn that you have previously dropped awaiting you. You simply drop one yarn & pick up the one that’s waiting there. StitchDiva.com has a tutorial with photos that shows more detail if you want further instruction.

Kelley Poteat

Introduction

My GPS goes through a lot- long trips, low batteries, being thrown around in my glove compartment, divider, or purse. I'm always worried about damaging the screen, so I made the poor thing a snug little cozy. Because GPS's come in many different sizes, this pattern is more of a rough outline, so that you may adjust things to fit yours. I suggest making the cozy very, VERY snug, so your GPS can have maximal padding and protection.

As with any pattern, please let me know if the instructions aren't clear enough or the pattern has errors. Feel free to share pictures and suggestions with me, I'd love to see them!

Materials List

GPS within reach, for sizing

Worsted weight scraps, takes only a small amount. I believe that I used some old Red Heart that I had. Cozy is double stranded.

US 5.00 MM hook (H)

Button or velcro

Sewing needle and small amount of thread

Finished Size

Finished size depends on your GPS. My cozy was made for a Garmin nüvi, and the final thing came out to be about 9x13cm, not including the flap.

Gauge

Not important

Notes

Cozy is made holding two strands together throughout. It is worked in the round.

HDC-half double crochet

ch-chain

sl st-slip stitch

The Pattern

Chain enough to cover the width of your GPS, with only about to chs to spare. I chained approx. 18.

Hdc across, putting 2 hdc in last ch. Turn and hdc around other side of the foundation ch.

Continue around and around and around until cozy is tall enough to just barely cover the GPS. I did approx. 11 rounds

To create flap, stop crocheting in the round and crocheted along the back row. Turn, crochet across. Repeat until flap is desired length. Here you can add velcro or a buttonhole to close. To do a buttonhole, simply hdc, ch1, skip st, hdc in next st. My flap is 7 rows long. I put the buttonhole on the 6th row.

Finish off, weave in ends. After finishing off, I sl stitched around the flap to make it look a little more "smooth." It isn't necessary, but it makes the flap look better.

Merri Purdy

Introduction

This is a very easy beginner bag to make, especially if you have never made a crocheted felted bag before. I made this as a gift for a friend.

Materials List

1 skein (4 oz) Lamb's Pride Worsted Weight 85%Wool/15%Mohair

Size J Crochet Hook

Button/Thread

Finished Size

8 1/2" wide X 6 1/2" high

The Pattern

Bottom: Chain 31, turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 29 chs (30 sc total) Row 2-6 sc in both loops in each sc across (30 sc/row.

At the end of row 6, turn work 90 degrees clockwise, evenly space 6 sc along short edge; turn, work 30 sc along foundation chain; turn, work 6 sc along opposite short edge; turn, work 30 more sc along long edge for a total of 72 sc. Do not fasten off.

Place marker through loops of last stitch and move up as you continue each round.

Now, working in BACK LOOPS only, continue to work "in the round" until bag measures approximately 8.5 - 9 inches from beginning (Or until desired height has been reached). Once I was approximately 1 inch from desired height, I sc through BOTH loops for a few rounds before ending. Fasten off. Note: I usually slip stitch into the top stitch of the next 2 scs to get a more even edge at the end of my piece before fastening off.

Attach yarn with a sc in the 15th stitch of long edge and chain 25 for little strap, sc in next (16th) stitch, turn and slip stitch back through each ch to make the strap a little more durable.

Handle Strap: Make 2 Chain 86, turn and hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each stitch across (85 hdc), ch 1, turn, slip stitch along long edge, around side and through each foundation chain to opposite side, ss to first stitch, fasten off. Weave in end strand.

Felt your pieces to desired size, cut small slit approximately 2 inches from each side to place and knot handle straps. (See first image.) Add button on top. You're done!
