Tamara Kelly

Introduction

About three years ago, I was lucky enough to become an aunty yet again,
and to celebrate I decided to make a pretty little baby blanket for the
new niece or nephew. I wanted something bold and fun, and this pattern was the result! I loved it, the new parents loved it, and my sister-in-law tells me even complete strangers remarked on it.

Materials List

Yarn: 1449 yards Lion Brand Cotton-Ease (7 skeins) or same quantity other worsted weight yarn

Hook: 5.0mm (US - H/8)

Finished Size

Approximately 36" x 36"

Notes

Video tutorial and written instructions for the Bobble Stitch are included, as well as a chart and a link to the Spanish version.

Debra Dandaneau

Introduction

The owl variation of my basic double-crochet hat, inspired by the adult and baby knit owl sweaters by Kate Davies (but I can't/don't knit).

There are six owls spaced evenly around the hat, formed by front-post double-crochet stitches.

Some added notes: my crochet tension is tight... so I use a large hook and only chain 2 to count as a starting dc. A "typical" crocheter might use a smaller hook, such as an "H" and use a chain 3 to count as the first dc of each row.

I corrected row 9... to be only 1 repeat of row 8 (the "12" repeats were for my "basic" hat pattern). Thanks for catching that!

Materials List

Worsted weight / weight 4 yarn: 200 yds /180 m (ex. Red Heart Super Saver, Caron Simply Soft, Lions Brand Wool Ease)

Hook H/I/J (5/5.5/6 mm): to gauge (I crochet with high tension so I typically use "J")

12 buttons: 3/16 or 1/4 inch, for "eyes" (I used 3/16 inch white)

Sewing thread and needle (for sewing on eyes)

Finished Size

One size fits most adults

Gauge

1st 4 rounds approx. 4 - 4 1/4 inches (10.5 cm) in diameter

Notes

Let me know if there are errors or confusing parts so I can correct the pattern on my blog:

After weeks, and I mean that literally, of searching for patterns for mens gloves, but only finding womens, I put my little twisted mind to it and came up with this.

As a disclaimer.......I am not a master crocheter, on a good day I'd call my self solid intermediate, but aggrivation became the mother of creativity for this.

If you are looking for something with changes noted, I don't have them....this is the prototype. I made this off of my hand, and just worked till it looked about (key word there) right. I will gladly accept any and all (another key word here) Constructive criticisim.

Please feel free to tweak, and play with the base line pattern to make it what you want, and most importantly, ENJOY!

Materials List

1 size G hook

1 size F hook

2 skiens 4-medium weight yarn ( I used 2 skiens of Lion Brand Wool-Ease, wool/acrylic blend)

Finished Size

I have large palms, short & fat fingers, and usually wear men's medium to large gloves, and a size 9.5 on my ring fingers.

Gauge

No clue! I just had fun.

Notes

Brenda K. B. Anderson

Introduction

My sister-in-law (who
incidentally lives in Michigan, the nation's high-five) asked me for a
no-frills mitten pattern using worsted weight yarn. Finding one was harder than I thought, so I came up with
this one. It is quite simple,
worked in single crochet only. I have included a pattern for an optional star
appliqué, but feel free to experiment with other embellishments, such as
crocheted flowers or beading. Or
not. Sometimes less is more.

Materials List

Size G - 6/4.00mm hook

Approximately 200
yards of worsted weight yarn in color of your choice for Women's
     size. (I used Ella Rae
washable yarn in 75% Acrylic, 25% wool). Approximately 150 yards of worsted weight yarn for Older Kid's size. (I used Lion
Brand "Vanna's Choice in "Magenta", 100% acrylic). Approximately 100 yards of worsted
     weight yarn for Preschool size.
(I used Lion Brand "Vanna's Choice" in "Fern", 100% acrylic).

Less than 10 yards of
worsted weight yarn for a pair of stars (optional)

Yarn needle

Finished Size

These
mittens are patterned for preschool sized hands with older kids and women's
sizes shown in parenthesis.

Preschool

These
mittens measure approximately 6.5" in length, including ribbed cuff. They measure about 6" around the hand
(circumference was measured just above where thumb splits off).

Older
kids

These
mittens measure approximately 8" from ribbing edge, to fingertip. They measure about 7.25" around the
hand (circumference was measured just above where thumb splits off).

Women's
Size

These
mittens fit most women's hands.
They measure approximately 10" from ribbing edge, to fingertip. They measure about 9" around the hand
(circumference was measured just above where thumb splits off).

Star measures 2 ¼" from tip to tip.

Gauge

17
sts and 18 rows worked in sc = 4" x 4"

Notes

Abbreviations
and terms used in this pattern:

Ch
= chain

Dc
= double crochet (used in star pattern only)

Hdc
= half double crochet (used in star pattern only)

sc
= single crochet

sc2tog =  single crochet 2 stitches
together. This is a decrease
stitch. (Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through to the
front of work, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through to
the front, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.)

Sl
st = slip stitch

st(s)
= stitch (stitches)

Tbl = through back loop.
When you sc tbl (single crochet through back loop) you will insert your hook
under only the back loop of the next stitch, not under both loops like
a normal single crochet stitch.

The back bump:

This is also known as the back, backside, or
butt of a chain stitch. This is
the part of the chain stitch that is opposite of the two loops (the ones
that form the "v") that you would normally insert your hook under. In other words, if you turn the chain
upside down, so that you are looking at the bottom of it, you will see a line
of dashes. It is under each dash,
that you would insert your hook if you were instructed to crochet into the back
bump of each chain stitch.

Magic Ring:

The
star pattern starts out with a magic ring. If you are not familiar with this technique, I highly
recommend typing "magic ring crochet" into your preferred search engine, to
learn how to do it. However, if
you prefer not to use the magic ring method, you can chain 2 stitches, and then
work into the second chain from the hook as directed. For example, if the pattern reads: "make a magic ring, sc 5
times into ring..." you could instead: "ch 2, sc 5 times into the second ch from
the hook".

The Pattern

Directions:

Directions
are the same for right and left mittens; make 2. The ribbing band (at the
wrist) is worked back and forth in rows and then slip stitched to form a
tube. The body of the mitten is
then worked in a spiral from the ribbing up to the fingertips.

Make
the ribbing:

row
1.
Using
size G hook and main color yarn, Ch 7 (9, 11) sts. Make 1 sc st into the back bump of the 2nd ch
from hook, make 1 sc st into the remaining 5 (7, 9) sts. 6 (8, 10) sts.

row
2.
Turn,
ch 1 (this is a turning chain, do not count as a stitch), 1 sc tbl into each st
across. 6 (8, 10) sets

rows 3 through rows 21 (27,
31): Repeat row 2, 19 (25,
29) more times. 6 (8, 10) sts in
each row, 21 (27, 31) rows worked, not including the foundation chain).

Hold the ribbing so that your crochet hook is at
the right side of your work (as though you are about to work another row). Take the beginning edge of your ribbing
(the foundation chain edge) and bring it in front of the last row that you
worked. In other words, fold the
ribbing in half and line up the short edges. Your crochet hook will be to the right, and in the row
behind the beginning yarn tail.
Slip stitch these rows together by inserting your hook into the back
loop of the foundation chain and then through the back loop of the stitch directly
behind it (from the last row worked), yo and pull loop through to front of work
and through loop on hook. Repeat
across row. 6 (8, 10) sl sts
worked. Do not fasten off! Turn ribbing tube so that the sl st row is to the
inside. (The sl st row is on the
wrong side of the cuff.) You will
now stitch into the edges of the previous rows.

Make the body of each mitten:

Round 1.
Make
23 (28, 33) sc sts, equally spaced, around top edge of ribbing. (23, 28, 33 sts)

Introduction

This
super fast and inexpensive wrap was created as a belly dance accessory. It would also make a cute cover-up at
the beach, or a nice accent piece over a skirt or leggings on a night out.

Materials List

About 250 yards of worsted weight yarn ( for large size) . I used Red Heart Classic 100% acrylic yarn.

Size I-9 5.5mm crochet hook

Two 7/8" or 1" buttons

Yarn needle

A piece of cardboard 8 ½" in one direction (This is optional-
you will use it to make the fringe)

Sewing needle and thread (to sew
     buttons on)

Finished Size

This pattern is
sized for X-Small (Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large). Each hip wrap is very adjustable. The maximum waist for the wearer is listed below for each size. Measure your waist where you will
actually be wearing the wrap (not necessarily where your natural waist
is). For example, the natural
waist of the dress form is marked with black tape in the photo. However, the waist measurement needed
for this pattern is where the waistband of the wrap sits on the dress form
(below the natural waist). If wrap
is buttoned at it's maximum waist size, there is no overlap in the skirt. Pictured is size Large on a dress form that
has a 34" waist, and 41" hips. As
you can see, there is some overlap in the skirt. Note: if you
are petite and making a Small or X-Small size, you may want to omit row 10.

Maximum waist for: X-Small = 29"

Medium = 37"

Large

X-Large
= 45"

Gauge

11 ½ dc sts = 4" (more important)

7 dc rows = 4"

Fasten off. Weave in ends. Stitch each button to the waistband to
fit. Both buttons should be
stitched to one end of the waistband so that they button through the other
(overlapping) end of the waistband.
(Buttons will fit between any two dc stitches). Use photo as a guide.

Make fringe as
follows:

Loosely wrap yarn
around the cardboard a few times (I wrapped it 4 times). Cut through yarn at one edge of the
cardboard. You should now have 4
or 5 pieces of yarn, each approximately 17" long. (You can just cut your yarn into 17" pieces. Using the cardboard just speeds up the
process a bit since you don't have to measure each piece). Insert hook through the center dc st of
any motif along the bottom edge of wrap. Using your hook pull the center of all
4 strands (held together) through the dc stitch. Make this loop big enough to reach through it with your
fingers (or a hook) and pull all of the fringe ends through. Carefully pull on fringe to tighten
loop. Repeat process for each
motif along bottom edge of wrap.
There will be 16 (18, 20, 22, 24) sections of fringe on the last
row. Congratulations! You have finished your Spiderweb Hip Wrap!

Stefanie Nowland

Introduction

I was playing with a size Q crochet hook when I thought of it. My first thought was to use ribbon to weave in, but I didn't have any a the time so I used Fun Fur instead. This is my first posting of a pattern, so if there are questions please ask them. I also welcome comments or pointers.

Materials List

A size Q crochet hook
any color worsted weight yarn
any color riddon or fun fur
(you'll hind that you can used pieces of scrap yarn for any part)

Finished Size

However long or wide you want it. Mine is 6 inches wide and 50 inches long.

Gauge

no gauge

The Pattern

Using the yarn only. Ch 11 turn

Sc in second ch from hook and sc across. Ch 1 turn. 10 sc

*Sc across to end of row. Then ch 1 turn* repeat from *to * until desired length. Then finish off. Weave in ends.

Then using the needle or small hook take the end of the ribbon or fur and weave in and out of the holes of the scarf the you already made.

Fringe- *Pull out extra ribbon or fur at the end of the scarf. Then at the other end where you started at, measure about the same amount of ribbon or fur and cut off. * Repeat * to * for the rest of the width of the scarf you should end with 10 pieces of fringe at each end. Then tie a knot at the end of the first part of the scarf with the fringe, just tie 2 of the fringe together across.

Without Fringe- continue to weave in and out from one end to the other, until finished. tie off and weave in ends.
