3-6 Months

Leaping Stripes and Blocks Blanket

Introduction

There are brand new babies in the extended family, and that means a new crochet blanket pattern! So I gathered together soft cotton and a beautiful overlapping blocks pattern to create the Leaping Stripes and Blocks Blanket. The colors seem to move up and down the blanket in a fun zigzag pattern, and the overlapping boxes create a yummy rhythmic pattern to crochet. One row just leaps over the other – and I love the way it looks!

The Leaping Stripes and Blocks Blankets that I made up are preemie sized, to fit our new arrivals – about 20″ x 20″. This is also the perfect size for adding an amigurumi head to make a sweet crochet lovie! If you like the pattern but want it bigger, I’ve included sizing information for making a standard baby blanket, afghan, and queen size blanket as well! So be sure to check the sizing info for the specifics, and then follow the generalized instructions below. I’ve included a photo tutorial that starts with a chain of just 18 – but it’s enough to show how the stitch pattern comes together.

Worsted weight yarn, equal amounts in 2 or more colors – for amounts see below

Notes

The blankets I made use 3 colors each. With this number I was able to carry the colors up along one side of the blanket, and cover them with the border. If you use more than 3 colors, you’ll probably want to cut and weave in the ends after each row (which may use a bit more yarn).

I have three nephews that are really into superheroes right now so it only seemed fitting that I make them some superhero inspired hats. This was the first one in the collection I designed based on Green Lantern's chest logo. I ended up making a whole family of crocheted superhero hats so they wouldn't fight over them. Introduction

I have to admit I'm overly fond of vampires and emoticon faces. Yes I know I'm a tad on the geeky side. ;) So I figured I would two things together that I loved in one hat and see how it turned out. I like it. I actually wore it to get my blood drawn twice now. The is a beginner friendly crochet project and you will be surprised how quickly it will come together. I have plans to add to the emoticon family of hats soon. Happy crafting!

Materials List

Yellow / Gold Yarn for Beanie Hat (main color)
Black Yarn for face features (contrast color)
Red Yarn for blood droplets
“J” hook (6.0 mm)
Scissors or Yarn Cutter
Blunt large eye yarn / tapestry needle to weave in ends

Finished Size

Adjustment for all hat sizes from newborn to adult male in crochet pattern.

Notes

Most of this pattern is worked in the round on a base of a magic circle. Instructions in pattern.

Introduction

What is cuter than a panda? How about a baby panda! I fell in love with this sweet baby girl panda hat as she came together. I think she is adorable and I will have to make some in smaller sizes for some toddlers in my family soon. :) Due to all the pieces in instructions I would suggest this for advanced beginners and up. If you are a new beginner, don't get discouraged, just take it one piece at a time so you don't get overwhelmed. I'm still new at pattern making so drop me a line if you need any help or have any questions. Happy crafting!
