This short-sleeve, A-line cardigan is a great layering piece that can be dressed up or down. The versatile top is worked in a single-crochet chain stitch to give it plenty of stretch and swing. Intermediate skills are recommended.

Finished Size: 35½ (37, 39, 41)" bust circumference buttoned, blocked. Garment shown measures 37" and is modeled with 2" of ease.

Yarn: Plymouth Happy Feet DK (90% superwash merino wool, 10% nylon; 262 yd [240 m]/3½ oz [100 g]): #50 (multi), 4 (4, 5, 6) skeins.

Hook: Size G/6 (4.25 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Notions: Three st markers (m); yarn needle; three ¾" buttons.

Gauge: 20 sts and 18 rows = 4" in main body patt.

Sc2tog: Insert hook in indicated ch-1 sp, yo and pull up lp, insert hook in next ch-1sp, yo and pull up lp, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Shape armhole:
Row 1: (RS) St lst in first 5 sts, cont working Row 3 of main body patt to last 4 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked-72 (78, 82, 86) sts.
Row 2: Work Row 3 of main body patt.
Row 3: Rep Row 7 of back-68 (74, 78, 82) sts.
Row 4: Ch 2, work even in st patt across.
Row 5 (dec row): Rep Row 3-64 (70, 74, 78) sts.
Row 6: Rep Row 4.
Row 7 (dec row): Rep Row 3-60 (66, 70, 74) sts.
Row 8: Rep Row 4.
Continue to work even until armhole length measures 6 ½".
Sizes 39 (41)" only:
Row 9 (dec row): Rep Row 3-66 (70) sts.
Row 10: Work Row 3 of main body patt.
Continue to work even until armhole length measures 7 (7 1/2)".


Shape left-back neck:
Row 1: (WS) Work Row 3 of main body patt over next 14 (14, 16, 18) sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked-14 (14, 16, 18) sts.
Row 2: Ch 2, sc in first ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc2tog, ch1, cont in main body patt to end, turn-12 (12, 14, 16) sts.

Shape right-back neck: With WS facing join yarn in 14 (14, 16, 18)th st from armhole edge.
Row 1: Work Row 3 of main body patt.
Row 2: Ch 2, sc in first ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc2tog, ch 1, cont in main body patt to end, turn-12 (12, 14, 16) sts.

The pattern is found in the Fall 2009 Crochet magazine. I'm running down to the library to check it out now!! Yea!! I can't wait to make it up!
