Introduction

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This is my first time designing something for a baby. I originally made it for a friends baby shower and was recently talked into sharing the pattern. Luckily I wrote it down!

This pattern is not tested, please contact me if any errors are found. Thank you.

Materials List

`Bernat Softee Baby Chiffon Print or any 3/Light weight yarn

`14 inches of 1/4” elastic, ends sewn together to make a circle.

`30 inches of 1/8” ribbon

`G/6-4.25mm hook or size needed for gauge

`H/8-5.00mm hook or size needed for gauge

`2 Stitch markers (locking or split ring)

`Tapestry needle

Finished Size

Size: Newborn

Length: approx 12in. (30.5cm)

Gauge

G hook: in single crochet, 10 sc = 2 inches (5cm)

H hook: in patt stitch, 3 clusters = 2 inches (5cm)

Stitch pattern for gauge swatch: Chain a multiple of 3 + 2

1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 dc in same ch as sc, (skip 2, [sc, 2dc] in

same chain) to last 3 ch, sk 2, sc in last ch, turn.

2: ch 1, (sc, 2dc) in 1st sc, (skip 2 dc, [sc, 2dc] in same sc) to last

cluster, skip 2dc, sc in last sc, turn.

Repeat row 2 for about 8 rows.

 

Notes

All stitches are in American terms.

ch - chain

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

sk - skip

st - stitch

rnd - round

The Pattern

Waistband:

Waistband, 1st half: with the smaller hook, Ch 66, join in a circle

without twisting the ch, ch1, sc in same ch as join and in each ch

around, join in 1st sc. (66 sc),

(ch1, turn, sc in each sc around, join) repeat, after last join, finish off.

(3 rnds, 66 sc)


Waistband, 2nd half: still using the smaller hook, join in any free loop

of the starting ch with a sc, sc around, join in 1st sc, join, ch1, turn.

Sc around for 2 more rnds (3 rnds, 66 sc) Do not finish off.


Waistband finishing: Fold waistband in half, insert the elastic, ch, now working through both thicknesses, sc around, join (66 sc)

Ch1, turn, (sc, sk1, ch1) repeat around, join, turn (33 sc, 33 ch)

Slip st into the 1st ch space, ch1, 2sc in same space, (skip next sc,

2sc in next ch space) around, join in 1st sc.

Ch1, turn, sc in each sc around, join. Do not finish off

 

Leggings:

Part between waistband and legs: change to larger hook

Rnd 1- ch1, turn, ([sc, 2dc in next sc], skip 2 sc) around, join in 1st sc

(22 clusters)

Rnd 2- ch1, turn, (sc, 2dc) in same sc as joining, skip 2 dc. ([sc, 2dc]

in next sc, skip 2dc) around, join in 1st sc (22 clusters)

Repeat rnd 2 until piece measures 6 inches from the top of the

waistband (22 clusters)

 

First Leg:

Ch1, turn, (sc, 2dc), place marker in same stitch, but in front of the sc

of cluster, skip 2dc, ([sc, 2dc] in next sc, skip 2dc) 10 more times,

skip 2dc, slip st in next sc, place marker in same st. skip next 33 sts,

slip st in 1st sc. leg openings made (11 clusters)

ch1, turn, (sc, 2dc) in same sc as joining, skip 2 dc. ([sc, 2dc] in next

sc, skip 2dc) around, join in 1st sc (11 clusters)

Repeat in pattern until leg measures 11 inches from the top of the

waistband. Do not finish off.

 

Ankle cuff: change to smaller hook

Rnd 1- Ch1, turn, sc in same st (dec over next 2 sts, sc in next 4 sts)

around, join in 1st sc.

Rnd 2- ch1, turn, sc in each sc around, join in 1st sc, finish off.

 

Second leg: change to larger hook

With wrong side facing, and first leg to the right, join with a slip st in

1st marked st. Ch1, [sc, 2dc] in same st as join, skip 2dc, ([sc, 2dc] in next sc, skip 2dc)10 more times, slip st in next marked st, join in 1st sc (11 clusters)

 

Repeat in pattern stitch until leg measures 11 inches from the top of the

waistband. Do not finish off.

 

Repeat ankle cuff from 1st leg. Finish off,

weave in ends. There might be a small hole between the legs, sew

closed if needed.

 

Weave ribbon in the ch1 spaces under the waistband.
