I think you need to check the diagram of Left-handed versus Right-handed Basic instructions. Instead of flipping each Step individually, the document flips the Steps in pairs. It doesn't make sense to have Step 1 in the diagram be a more complicated than casting or tying on as shown in the Right-handed diagram.

I am in the process of making this shawl however it would be nice to see the "end" of the shawl close up.  I am new to hairpin lace and trying to get the hang of it.

Wow I am a great fan of crochet and I do bit of crocheting on handkerchiefs. I really liked what you have done. It would be of great help if you could post the step by step instructions to crotchet one such thing. Thanks.
