Martha Cowl Scarf - crochet cowl with flower motif

Martha is a tubular scarf crocheted in simple hdc-ch stitches. The distinctive mesh stitches of this scarf were very quick to work up, then I added a 3-layered flower motif for a nice contrast.

This cowl scarf is designed to be wrapped around the neck, not once as most cowls, but twice, for extra volume and chic factor. Besides, you don't have the loose ends to fasten like a normal scarf. No matter how windy is it out there, your scarf will stay on your neck!

I found it everyone! Yay!

So it looks like www.littlethingies.com no longer exists but being the way the internet is, nothing is forever lost in cyberspace if it's ever been put online. So - here's the link to download the pdf.

Martha Cowl Pattern~

8.7" (height)  x circumference about 60"

Lionbrand fisherm's wook yarn-natural 1 skein (I use Hobby Lobby's 'I love this yarn' because it is washable, when i use the hobby lobby yarn i purchase 2 skeins...i only use a small portion of the second skein) OR use a Debra Norville yarn (this will take about 5 skeins since her skeins are smaller)

H hook (5mm)

ch 154 (60"0 join in first ch

rnd. 1 ~ch 2, had in first ch, ch 1 (sk 1 ch, hdc in next ch, ch 1) around, join in top of beg. ch 2

rdd. 2 ~sl st into next sp, ch 2, hdc in same sp, ch 1, (hdc in next sp, ch 1) around, join in top of beg ch 2

Repeat round 2 until cowl measures 8.7" from edge or until desired height. FO . weave in ends.

Flower ~ G hook (4.5mm)

rnd. 1 ~ ch 6, join in first ch to form a ring. ch 4 , (dc in ring, ch 1) 7 times, join in 3 ch in beg ch 4

rnd. 2 ~sl in first sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, (ch 5, sc in next sp) 7 times, ch 5, join in first sc.

rnd. 3 ~ ch 1, (sc in next dc in rnd. 1, ch 4) 8 times, join in first sc

rnd. 4 ~sl in next sp, (1 sc, 3 dc, 1 sc in next sp) in each space, join in first sc

rnd. 5 ~ch 1, (sl in the back of second dc of next petal, ch 4) 8 times, join in first st

rnd. 6 ~sl in next sp, (1 sc, 2 dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, 1 sc) in each sp, join in first sc.

FO, leave 15" tail and sew the flower onto cowl.

I had forgotten i had this pattern.  i hope i copied correctly. i checked and double checked on this.

chicopee~glad you can now crochet the martha cowl. i do not understand why this was taken off the internet because this pattern seems popular.

mimi0523....you are welcome. sad to see this pattern off the internet...so many are looking for the pattern.

i created with Hobby Lobby yarn...I Love This Yarn. this yarn is soft and does not pill. also Michael's has their own yarn 'Incredible' which works wonderful. I find Red Heart rough and does pill a bit. Also Deborah Norville yarn is AMAZING. you can find Deborah's yarn at JoAnn stores, Hobby Lobby and sometimes Wal Mart.

enjoy ! glad i can help...

target01~ i posted the pattern on this page last year...look above your message about 12 messages up and you will see the pattern. i suggest if you have a hobby lobby near you...'i love this yarn' yarn or use deborah norville yarn.

ISSPHX   single crochet-sc ,   half double crochet - hdc  , double crochet-dc,   slip stitch-sl st , chain-ch , finish off -f.o.  i do not understand why this pattern will not come back. it is popular. did you find where i wrote out the pattern ? i printed up a few years ago and saw some were looking for the pattern. it is cute and easy

abicruz wrote
on Nov 30, 2012 2:40 PM

Or explain some of the abbreviations in the pattern? Sorry, I'm still learning!

calgal57 wrote
on Nov 30, 2012 2:44 PM

mimi0523 - i agree about red heart...rough on the hands and body. i love this yarn is my favorite. i have found michael's yarn is good but have had some pilling. i found on clearance a fleece black and white leopard yarn at jo ann's ! i am going to make this with the fleece yarn.  also try caron simply soft or hobby lobby's version of simply soft. use a larger hook then for the ww yarn.
