I cross-stitched the Chinese character for "love" onto single crochet square. I whip-stitched the squares together and then sewed fabric to the back to cover the cross-stitch. I then put a border on the entire afghan and tacked the fabric to the afghan so it did not gap.

What a wonderful blanket idea! You don't know me but you solved a longtime problem one of my own projects was giving me, so many THANK YOU's to you for that! (To clarify, I'm also making a blanket with a detailed pattern in the middle of it and I wasn't quite sure how to make it work, but your technique with double layering is COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE and I love it!)

THANK YOU,
