I had remembered a baby shower about two hours before I had to be there!
No time for a blanket, but plenty time for some simple booties! I do mean simple! Too simple to give by themselves!
I always have these "take out" boxes on hand at Christmas time. There you go... Instant gift!
I hand wrote a little fortune...."good things come in small packages"! Not very original, but it worked! The mommy loved them and that's all that matters!
This is a knitting pattern, but you can VERY easily crochet them using the size guide!

- One pair US size 4 (3.5 MM) straight needles
- One skein worsted weight medium (4) yarn (will make 4 pair) Loops & Threads Impeccable 4.5 ozs 268 yards in HEATHER. Scrap yarn will work too! You don't need too much!
YOU WILL ALSO NEED:
SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
- newborn 3.5" ((0-6 months 4", 6-9 months 4.25"; 9-12 months 4.5")
BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY:
- cast on
- cast off
- knit and purl
Instructions for top of bootie (make 2):
With needles cast on 10 (15, 20, 25) stitches
Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 8 1/2” (9 1/2”, 10 1/2”, 11 1/2”) from the cast on edge.
Bind off leaving an 8” tail.
Turn cast on edge a half turn and sew to bind off edge for right shoe. This is the top of the bootie.
For second bootie, turn cast edge half turn the opposite way for left shoe. Weave in all ends.
Sole of bootie (make 2):
With needles cast on 11 (16, 21, 26) stitches.
Row 1: Knit every row until piece measures 2 1/2” (3 1/2”, 4 1/2”, 5 1/2”).
Row 2: K2tog, k to last 2 sts., K2tog
Row 3: Knit Row 4: K2tog, k to last 2 sts., K2tog Knit for 4 (8, 12, 16) rows.
Bind off leaving a 12” tail.Finishing for both booties:
With the yarn tails, sew the sole to the top portion, with the widest part of the sole matching up to the toe of top portion.
Just fold in half to get the fortune cookie look! You can type up any fortune you choose and print them out on your computer!
