I consider myself a knowledgable crocheter but I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing  wrong with this pattern. My fpdcs just come down almost straight. Can anyone help me?

Nice information, many thanks to the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Thanks again and good luck. Bye bye!

For the first several rows, the cables do appear to be going straight and not spiralling. The farther apart the FPdc are the more they seem to swirl.
