I'm wondering if anyone else has made this vest and had trouble with the gauge? I'm using the yarn called for and can't the width as narrow as stated in the pattern if I use the specified hook size. If I go down even one hook size, the the row gauge is too short. I've come up with workaround, but I'm wondering why I'm having such a problem!

I have started to crochet this beautiful vest in the largest size... I hve frogged it 12 times!!! After a night of frustration I sat down at the base line before starting the fan pattern. I counted carefully to make sure I had the right number of stitches then calculated and re calculated the stitch count of this row... physically I come up 3 stitches short of what the pattern asks for. Does anyone have the correct figures for this line?

I, too, am having a problem getting the gauge correct with the recommend yarn and hook sizes.  I have attempted it anyway with recommended hook size and it was too large.  I went down one hook size and it was too small.  Two strikes and I don't know if I will bother with it again.  It's so pretty and easy, but something weird in the sizing.

Like everyone else, getting the gauge correct is a nightmare--I've never had such problems with a pattern.  Finally got it right for width, but the row gauge is short no matter what -- it's not even close!  I'm getting 8-9 rows to the 4" test swatch.  Thought I could settle for that and just add another fan pattern.  But the problem is the shoulder area is then too short which means the armholes are too small. It didn't dawn on me that this would be a problem until I finished the shoulder area and thought "oh no, this is wrong again--duh, should have figured that out to begin with!"  I'm going to rip it out again and instead of dc's I'll try tr's.  If that doesn't work, I'm done!  I keep trying at this pattern and have ripped it out several times because I really like the shawl.  But trying to get the gauge right is kicking my rearend and I have over 40 years of crocheting experience!

I like crochet, and loom knitting with provo, also some plastic canvas stitching. My favorite is crocheting using the standard method but also the afgan stitch ot tunisianVPN service crocheting as well. Pictures will come when I can get batteries for my camera

I've given up on this pattern for now. Maybe will try again with modifying the top part by reducing the number of stitches in the two front panels and increasing the number in the back. Maybe try triples as someone else suggested.  Blah! Going to use this yarn for the Lion Brand Floral Fantasy Pullover. People seem to love it.

Can't wait to purchase the magazine and get started on all of the projects. I love the Seafoam Shawl in Classic Elite Chesapeake. It lays so perfect for this pattern. My Granddaughters will love the bracelets and headband! Thank you for the great patterns!
