Introduction

I must give credit to “I Love Scraps” afghan on Ravelry. I tried it, but that pattern leaves hole spaces by the colors. I wanted to eliminate the hole spaces so I designed a modified version.

14 oz. of soft white for background color. Using 6 ribbon colors, you will need 4 oz of each color. This afghan used brown, beige, orange, yellow, dark green and light green. You can use different colors or make your own color chart.

Special stitch:
Long Dc = Yarn over hook, then insert hook in st of white row where there are the 2 skipped stitches. Yarn over hook. Pull yarn through stitch. Draw up loop to height of working row. Yarn over hook. Pull yarn through 2 loops on hook. Yarn over hook and pull yarn through last 2 loops on hook.

The Pattern

Ch 159 in soft white yarn as the background color for the ribbons of color.
Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, sc across. 158 sc. Ch up 2 and turn.
Row 2: Hdc across. 158 sts. Break off white and tie on your first color (brown) yarn.
Row 3: Ch 2 in the color yarn and turn. Crochet 6 dc, ch 2 and skip over 2 white sts, repeat crochet 6 dc, ch 2 and skip over 2 white sts. Repeat from 17 more times. You will have 6 white sts left from row 2 and place an hdc in each to end row 3. 158 sts. Tie on soft white, ch up 1 and turn.
Row 4: Sc across with 2 Long Dc where each color ch 2 is located. The Long Dc will cover the gap between each 6 dc clumps of color to fill in the space with soft white and make it appear as though the color yarn is being woven in and out of the white background yarn. 158 sts. Ch 2 and turn.
Row 5: Hdc across. 158 sts. Break off white and tie on your second color (beige) yarn.
Row 6: Repeat row 3. Tie on soft white, ch up 1 and turn. Repeat rows 4 & 5, then tie on third color. Continue afghan with row 3 for each color, then rows 4 & 5 in soft white. Make afghan to the length you prefer. Finish with a row 4 & 5 of soft white. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
