The basket is made by crocheting over a rope, working in the round.  The rope adds stiffness to the basket.  Pattern includes photo tutorials and instructions on how to adapt the pattern to your rope size and desired basket dimensions.

Materials List

Length of rope (approx. 38m, or amount for your basket size), 300m cotton dk yarn (again more or less if you adjust the basket size), 5mm hook.

Finished Size

Basket measures 42cmx22cmx17cm high, but you can make your own size.

Gauge is unimportant; instructions on how to get your desired dimensions from your initial chain length are included.

This pattern involves crocheting over a rope to add bulk and stiffness to the basket.

What an amazing idea. The coincidence is that I am currently working on making a fruit basket with coir rope and I was struggling to join the ropes as they went round. The foundation stich and the method of attaching the rope with crochet stitches is pure genius:)

Congratulations. I hope to benefit from your ideas continually.

Good luck with all your projects...

Thanks Lalitha!  Glad this post was helpful to you. Those stiffer ropes can be pretty tricky to join! I hope your basket turns out well.
