Introduction
This is a pattern for Plus Size Arm Warmers. There are a lot of arm warmer - wrist warmer patterns out there and most are made for thin long arms. My chubby arms and wrists are large and get larger as they go up toward the elbow. I came up with this pattern for myself but thought others might want to have a simple arm warmer pattern that they can tweak to fit their unique arms. :)
Materials List
Size H/8 5.000mm Hook
2 skeins Patons SWS (soy wool solids) I used Natural Raisin and Natural Moss
Stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
dc= double crochet
ch= chain
st = stitch
Finished Size
Size L - XL (customizable to your arms)
Gauge
Gauge is not known. For thicker yarn weight like one used above, you will need less stitches. (use your arm width and length of armwarmers you wish as a guide)
Notes
This was a thicker yarn, if you use a thinner weight yarn you will have to increase the # of stitches for length and width.
The Pattern
Natural Raisin:
Start out with a chain of 26. Then sc in second ch from hook. Single Crochet in each st across. (25stitches)
chain1 turn (each row)
Single crochet in each stitch across for 13 rows
Slip Stitch in the first 8stitches, then single crochet in the remaining 17 stitches. (This is the hole for the thumb) chain 1 and turn
Single crochet in next 17stitches, chain 7, then sc in last stitch. Chain 1 turn
Sc in each stitch across. (25stitches) ch 1, turn
Repeat this 13 more rows.
You'll have a total of 26 rows.
Finish off
Fold the 'square' in half matching up the 'thumb holes'.
You will now need to thread your tapestry with the yarn you will be using to sew up the armwarmers. (I used natural raisin)
Sew up the sides of the arm warmers leaving the thumb space open.
Take the Contrast Color (I used natural moss):
Knuckles -
join with a sl st to any stitch, sc in each stitch around. ch 1 do not turn
reverse single crochet in each stitch around. Finish off
Bottom-
join with a sl st to any stitch, sc in each stitch around. ch2 (mark end)
hdc in each stitch around. ch1
reverse single crochet in each stitch around. Finish off.
